Description

Botanical aspects: fam Pinaceae Pinus sylvestris can grow up to 40 m and has a reddish-brown bark, grayish spiky needle-like leaves, and sharp-pointed brown cones that form and mature in about 2 years. Male flowers are orange-yellow, female flowers are pinkish-green. Pinus sylvestris was used by Egyptians and Greeks in religious ceremonies for purification, pulmonary infections. In Switzerland, pillows and mattresses are filled with white pine needles to help with breathing and rheumatic conditions. It is used in soaps, detergents, cosmetics, and bath products.

Safety considerations: skin sensitization if oxidized. Dilute before use. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided. For external use, only! Do not use essential oils in intravenous or intramuscular injections.
